HOW IS PACKAGING BEING RESOLVED, AND WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS IF packaging ISN'T RESOLVED?
RESOLUTION AND POTENTIAL IMPACTS?
Australia is one of the worst waste generators in the world. The average Australian consumes 90 kg of resources in packaging each year. This is double the amount of what many European nations generate. There have been several accounts where companies have broken regulations and were charged for using excessive packaging. In 2010, Sainsbury’s, the second largest supermarket chain in the UK, was prosecuted and fined 500-3000 pounds for over-packaging a meat product. The fine wouldn’t have much of an effect on a company of Sainsbury’s stature, and they would continue investing in products that are over packaged. Coles and Woolworths have introduced cloth bags to help cut down on the use of plastic bags. If everyone puts in an effort to reduce their consumption of packaging, our planet would greatly benefit. Though, if nothing is done, we will destroy the future for the next generation of humans to walk upon our finite planet.
